Leilani Farha, the UN Special Rapporteur on adequate housing, presented her 2016 annual report at the 31st session of the Human Rights Council in March 2016. Her report qualifies homelessness as a “global human rights crisis” that is being largely ignored by international human rights institutions and national governments.
The UN Committee on the Rights of the Child is currently drafting a General Comment on children in street situations. In order to reflect the diversity of experiences, opportunities and challenges facing children in street situations, the Committee is calling on States parties, civil society and other interested parties to make written submissions.
