CSC and our partner Aviva

Aviva became a corporate Partner of the Consortium for Street Children in 2010 when it launched Street to School, its global flagship community programme.

Through Street to School Aviva partners with organisations around the world to provide meaningful local support to street-connected children and help them with education or training.

As well as providing support on the ground, Aviva is committed to championing the rights of street-connected children. Over the last four years Aviva’s partnership with CSC has been instrumental in helping us develop and deliver key programmes and projects that raise awareness of street children and their rights at a global level.

One of the first ways in which Aviva supported CSC was in the work we undertook to call for a United Nations Resolution on Street Children, which was achieved in March 2011.

We realise we need expert partners in order to make the biggest long term difference and this is where CSC has been invaluable.”

Following on from this success CSC launched The International Day for Street Children on 12th April 2011, as a way of raising global awareness of street children. Aviva were our first corporate supporter of the day and over the last three years have helped grow awareness of the day through staff activity, communications support and by hosting events.

Aviva has also supported a number of CSC led publications, in particular our role as lead consultant in delivering a major United Nations study on street children. The resultant Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) report ‘Protection and promotion of the rights of children working and/or living on the streets’ makes a number of recommendations for how to drive forward changes in policy and practice affecting street-connected children. The report is ground breaking because of the unique cross-sector collaboration between OHCHR, UNICEF, CSC and Aviva. Aviva also co-supports CSC’s Global Resource Centre, www.streetchildrenresources.org

Aviva’s Group Head of Corporate Responsibility David Schofield says “Our Street to School programme recognises that for street children education is insurance for a brighter future. We realise we need expert partners in order to make the biggest long term difference and this is where CSC has been invaluable. They have helped us help street children in an authentic way that has enabled us to get hands on with some of the toughest issues. Working with CSC and its network has helped us listen, learn and grow in confidence.”
