Sadly Dr. Sarah Thomas de Benitez will be stepping down from her CEO role at the end of the year, due to her family’s expedited relocation to Asia at the end of this year. In her time at the helm, Sarah has made an enormous contribution to the CSC: creating our 5-year strategy, building and bringing stability to the Executive team, spearheading the UN General Comment initiative, strengthening research, and beginning to place the organisation on a more even keel through diverse sources of funding. Leilani Farha, the UN Special Rapporteur on adequate housing, presented her 2016 annual report at the 31st session of the Human Rights Council in March 2016. Her report qualifies homelessness as a “global human rights crisis” that is being largely ignored by international human rights institutions and national governments.
The voices of hundreds of street-connected children around the world have been heard by the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child, thanks to the unique consultations with children organised in February to April 2016 by Consortium for Street Children.
