Consortium for Street Children, sends its deepest condolences to the family and friends of Fr Patrick Shanahan who died on Sunday. Patrick was an inspiration to many in the street children community having founded and led many organisations in Africa, including StreetInvest.

Counting Webinar 13th September

In 1989 Unicef estimated that there were 100 million street children in the world. This figure was repeated in 2002 and again in 2005. However, it is a figure that has been repeatedly criticised as being invalid and having no basis in fact.

However challenging, obtaining accurate data on street children is essential for practitioners, policy-makers and donors alike, who can use this information to better direct their programmes, policies and to target and evaluate their funding streams.

CSC’s next Counting Webinar, an opportunity for practitioners and academics to share knowledge and expertise on counting, will take place on the 13th of September from 3:00 – 4:45 pm GMT.

Sarah Thomas de Benitez

CSC CEO Succession

Sadly Dr. Sarah Thomas de Benitez will be stepping down from her CEO role at the end of the year, due to her family’s expedited relocation to Asia at the end of this year. In her time at the helm, Sarah has made an enormous contribution to the CSC: creating our 5-year strategy, building and bringing stability to the Executive team, spearheading the UN General Comment initiative, strengthening research, and beginning to place the organisation on a more even keel through diverse sources of funding.
