International Day for Street Children

Every year, organisations and individuals around the world celebrate the International Day for Street Children, recognising the humanity, dignity and defiance of street-connected children in the face of unimaginable hardships.

The day provides a focus point to rally governments and individuals worldwide to work together to ensure their rights are protected no matter who they are and where they live.

Since 2018, the campaign has focused on our 4 Steps to Equality, which provides a framework for governments to ensure street-connected children can realise their rights under the Convention of the Rights of the Child.

Four Steps to Equality

Our global advocacy campaign, “The 4 Steps to Equality”, calls on Governments to ensure that street children can access all their rights under the Convention on the Rights of the Child. To achieve this, we want to see the UN General Comment No. 21 on Children in Street Situations implemented in full.
